Could I try for the Atari 2600 Galaxian record?

I was wondering if it would be cool if I could try for the Atari 2600 Galaxian world record at the SC3 meet? At the moment I am now consistently getting over 300,000 points. My high so far is 600,130. The world record is 1,343,700. I believe that in a couple of months I will have a legitimate shot at breaking it. I think doing it in front of a live audience would help motivate me. I was wondering if you guys would be cool with this? If not, than no worries.

How long does it take you to reach 300k?
The event is 6 hours long, but you also need to know there are occasional power outages.

It takes me about 55 minutes to get to 300k. To get the record it would probably take about 4 and a half hours. So it looks like I will only have one shot, maybe two if the first game is not that good. I am OK with the chance of a power outage.

There's ways of fixing the brownout issue. I can always bring over my UPS, it should power a small monitor and a 2600 for at least 30 minutes.homerwannabee wroteCOLONIt takes me about 55 minutes to get to 300k. Additionally, what else is required for the record? I seem to remember people having to send in tapes.

Yes, it does need to be taped. I do have a VCR that tapes, so I guess I can do it that way. If anyone else wants to tape it they are welcome to, if I am allowed to do this.

I doubt any of us would have an issue with this. Are you bringing all your own stuff? We organizers will need to discuss it, but I'm sure we can find a somewhat quiet corner so you can get an audience without being distracted by lots of foot traffic. If you remember where the MAME/Virtual Pinball setup was at the last meet, that would be a possibility. People could mill about behind you but no one will be passing in front or on the sides. I'm sure one of us has an RF to composite adaptor so we can simulcast on the big screen too.homerwannabee wroteCOLONYes, it does need to be taped. Yeah, I can bring my own stuff. Game, System, and my little 13 inch TV that I actually play the thing on. If this could happen it would definitely make my day.

This could be a lot of fun. Maybe we could even involve Twin Galaxies in some way. After all, they did provide giveaway posters and hot sauces at the last event.
Cool idea.

Just an update. I have gotten much better. Now my high score is over 1,314,400. I now have a taped score of 1,003,590. There is a very significant chance that by the time this thing rolls around I will have the record. But I am still willing to go after my own record at the event if I do have the record by then.

At what point does the difficulty curve flatten out? Or is it basically how long you can endure and pay attention with limited lives?homerwannabee wroteCOLONJust an update. I have gotten much better.
